That trip to the dentist

Yesterday I went to the dentist. I normally don't mind the dentist.
I was having a weird anxious feeling.

I guess 2 fillings and 1 crown could do that to a girl. Especially when they told me that I could be in that chair for up to 3 hours. Oh Great.

Don't get me wrong. I have a great dentist. So great that I spent 10 days with him and his family and some mutual friends on a vacation to Anguilla.

I have complete faith in him.
I still felt anxious.

I have rotten teeth. I brush religiously and not so religiously floss. But I do try.

I have just always had problems. I guess its just soft teeth.

They did the usual numbing and gave it a few minutes to set in.

I was feeling pretty numb so they started drilling.

Not quite numb enough. Eeeeeekkkkk

Round 2 of numbing. Followed by a disclaimer that this extra numbing could leave me numb for a whole 24 hours.

I left with some chapped lips and a lopsided face.
Sexy, huh?

All this for some pretty teeth. Is it worth it?

Who knows.

As for the black and white photos? No real relevance.
Just glad we have legitimate sedation nowadays.

Insta friday

Im linking up again this week at life rearranged.
Head on over there to see what this friday ritual is all about.

We took a little day trip up to the Wisconsin Dells. Dalton used to work there during the summers and was able to get us on a duck ride for free. We also went to see the Tommy Bartlet ski show. Loved it.

Chinese for dinner is always a special treat.

We went out for Dalton's grandma's birthday on tuesday.

New beginnings

Although I am always sad to see summer go, I am always ready for fall to begin.

The cozy sweaters, sunday football games, cool nights, cute boots,,,
oh and school. I almost forgot.

The new school year is a chance at a clean slate. A fresh start
New faces, new experiences.

Did I mention how much I love school supplies?
I cannot wait to set up my new desk with my new supplies.
Its the little things in life, isn't it?

New pens
Fresh notebooks
Dry erase markers
Post it notes

Be still my heart.

Oh, and a few new cacti that were given a second chance at life. Lets hope they root and thrive in the new dorm room.

Only a few days of summer left. Lets not wish them away, but embrace them instead.

xxxxxx

InstaFriday

Im linking up at life rearranged for InstaFriday.
Head on over there to check it out.

A few target trips. I can't resist the cute dorm stuff

I had lunch with one of my favorite teachers from high school who was in town for the afternoon. I finally got to meet her 8 month old twins. Adorable...but exhausting

Shame on me. But it was delicious. My ever-growing stomach and ever shrinking wallet are both happy that there isn't a Dunkin Donuts closer to my house.

Ike finally getting the chance to be the walk-er instead of the walk-ee

We had a belated birthday get together for my dad. I made this. It was an absolute hit.

Im hoping to get out and have some fun this weekend. No work for me!

We decorated for fall this week at work and now I'm really anxious for fall to get here. Chunky sweaters, boots, pumpkin candles....ahhh

Happy Friday

German Chocolate Cake

Were celebrating my dads birthday tonight. He loves german chocolate cake.

What do you get a man that has everything? Food.

Here is what you need:

For the cake
1/2 Cup boiling water
4 oz bar of germans sweet chocolate
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk

For the Frosting:
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
_________________________________________________________

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the 3 8in cake rounds. In a small bowl, pour boiling water onto chocolate and stir until melted. Set aside to cool. In a large mixer, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time beating well after each addition. On low speed blend in cooled chocolate and vanilla. In a separate
bowl, combine flour, soda, and salt. Add the dry mix to your previous mix slowly alternating it with the buttermilk and mixing after each addition. In a small bowl beat egg whites until stiff. Fold whites into batter. Pour mixture into prepared pans. Bake 35-40 mins or until toothpick is inserted into the center and comes out clean. Cool and remove from pans.
________________________________________________________

For frosting:
In a saucepan, over medium heat, combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla. Cook and stir until thick, about 12 minutes. Stir in coconut and pecans. Beat until thick enough to spread. Place 1 layer in between each cakes and then one layer on top. Spread on sides if you wish.

I may not get 100 points for presentation, but dang is that frosting good.
I'll let you know how it goes over with the pops
