Just enough but not too much.

It's officially summer now.
Meaning its officially time for the weather to get its act together. Sunny and 85 is all this girl is asking for.

Thursdays and fridays lately. Just me and this guy.
You will often find us dancing around the living room listening to Evan Murdock and the Imperfect Strangers. Coo coo cockatoo, look at me baby look at you.
Sneaking fig newtons from the cookie jar above the fridge. Drinking diet coke from a mason jar. Extra ice of course. Listening to the sound of light traffic pass by as we lie on a thrifted quilt in the backyard. Under a shade tree of course. Mom says no sunscreen for a few more months. Maybe we will meet a friend for lunch. Lets take the stroller and walk the bike path to a quaint little place on Willy street. You will cry in the stroller on the way home but the car ride will put you right back to sleep. I will catch up on reading or shut my eyes for a few quiet minutes as you continue your nap in the car seat.

I tell you how much I love your little toes and how proud your great grandparents would be of you. We giggle when you smile just as your great grandpa used to when he didn't have his bottom dentures in. I am tempted to give you licks of my chocolate ice cream cone but Ben, I know your mom would kill me.

At the end of the day, your mom picks you up and I tell her of all of our adventures.

Its just enough but not too much.

Things you shouldn't underestimate. ever.

How unbelievable it feels to sit at a table surrounded by cousins, and just talking. And laughing too.

The convenience of a washer and drier on the same floor as my bedroom.

Deleting emails.

A stripe of pink in your bangs.

Squishy baby cheeks.

Coffee with a few dear friends.

Real Vitamin D. As in from the sun, not a tanning bed.

Hugs, tears, and advice. ((Simultaneously))

Recycling a vintage dress that my grandma wore in the 50's.

Not to mention the smile on my moms face when she saw me in the dress.

How hard it is to make 30 dollars at a garage sale.

Happy mail.

Words of wisdom from people who understand the pain. And have experienced the healing too.

((I like people who smile when its raining))

 photo 25f4f424-0519-4564-9167-c262f11fbb81_zps0a9dea5c.jpg

Today there is a high temp of 48. I have my jeans cuffed up and my converse on.
Tomorrow there is a high temp of 57. This calls for bikinis and flip flops. Just kidding. But really.

Wisconsin is known for truly having all four seasons. Its one of the things I love about this state. Even though I am a little bitter towards winter, I really do appreciate each season. But when spring starts peeking its head over the dirty snow piles, everyone and their mother brings out their beach bags and longboards. We all have serious spring fever.

Things that spring gives us to be happy about include but are not limited to:

Rolled up jeans
Sock less days
Ranunculus from Trader Joe's
Iced Latte's
Hunter Rain Boots
Splashing puddles
Thunderstorms
Brandi Carlile Pandora stations
Brisk mornings and light evenings
PB&J's in a picnic basket
Rolling the windows down in the car so the dog can hang his head out
Forgoing the jersey sheets and down comforter for cotton sheets and a light throw
and lets not forget the remaining weeks of school. Im not mad about it.

This week hasnt been all that kind to me. I had hoped to have my pictures from Florida up by now but thats just not happening. Instead, let me share my favorite blogs lately.

Nat the Fat Rat: I only found this little slice of heaven recently. I mean if blog envy is a real thing, I have it out for this one. Her posts are centered around life with her little one and her husband and their life in the NYC. Not to mention her style is gorg.
Annapolis & Company: I got caught up with this blog a few months ago when I stumbled upon the post about her son's birth story. The honesty and comedy incorporated into this post hooked me. I couldn't stop reading after that. Also, she has one of the best link-ups and I secretly dream of her photographing my wedding some day. ((guess its not such a secret anymore))

 photo 369403f9-7f64-433f-bd41-f83f57573447_zps1914413c.jpg
Life of Bon: This girl is hilarious. Not to mention I love reading her posts about teaching high schoolers.
Gussy Sews: This was one of the first blogs I ever started reading. And each day I read her post. She just had a baby and honestly, I was so anxious to find out the news that he had finally arrived. I was actually checking instagram and twitter obsessively to see if there were any updates on the arrival. I look forward to reading all the milestones of this new little guy.

Smile and Wave: Her house tour posts are my absolute favorite. She really has a knack for vintage decorating. I also enjoy reading her DIY posts. They are extremely "do-able" but look fabulous when they are finished.
Nish Weiseth: Nish is such an inspiration. Her posts are insightful and thought provoking. I love sitting down and scrolling through her posts with a hot cup of tea. Im hoping to read some of her published work someday soon!

I hope to be just like all these ladies when I grow up.

((Story People))

 photo e604c63c-8cdf-42fd-a761-b3b1eb9b426a_zps3f6f0b63.jpg
"He loved her for almost everything she was & she decided that was enough to let him stay for a very long time."

Have you guys heard of Story People? If you havent seen any of their work you can find out more about them here.

My mom got me hooked on these beautiful works of art. She has the one seen above displayed in her house and she has given me several of the prints.
This one hangs above my desk.

My mom gave me this one when I moved to college. I'll admit, it made me tear up a little bit.

"There has never been a day when I have not been proud of you, I said to my daughter. Though some days I'm louder about other stuff so its easy to miss that."

Grown up things

So Dalton and I signed our first lease for an apartment for next year.
This means were all grown up I guess. I cant tell you how excited I am to get out of the dorm room lifestyle. I wouldn't take this experience back, don't get me wrong but I mean one can only live with 3 girls in a small space for so long. Can I get an amen?

So I have been scouring the inter web for some inspiration for my first apartment. These are only ideas, our apartment is quite small but we do have two bedrooms and a decent sized living and kitchen area.

We are obviously both on a budget and understand that college living is a lot about the experience. This means that most decor will be coming from thrift stores. Im cool with it.

Christmas List: Books

I found myself putting a lot of "coffee table" type books on my christmas list this year. Doesn't that sound all grown up? Im sure my mother was impressed. And should I mention I don't even have a coffee table?
Minor details people, minor details.

Go out and by someone a completely silly but oh so lovely coffee table book. Who knows if they even have a coffee table. Ah, whatever. The books are cute with or without a coffee table.

Favorite Holiday Fonts

Here are some of my favorite holiday fonts. Download away!

These are the actual names and links. They are all free to download.
Think of this as my christmas gift to you!
1. Lavendaria
2. Christmas Card
3. Santa's Sleigh
4. Dalle

Mint Grasshopper

GRASSHOPPER

This is a great holiday recipe whether your entertaining or eating one out of a wine glass in bed. You can guess which I prefer.

2 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 shot creme de menthe
1 shot creme de cocoa

Blend and Serve.

We just used a gallon of ice cream and separated into thirds adding the shots as we went. We didnt follow the recipe exactly we just taste tested as we went. We ended up only using about a quarter of each bottle for a whole gallon of ice cream and they are perfectly sweet but strong. Let your tongue be the judge.

--------> VOTE <-----------

Just do it.
Please. Im begging you.

Photobucket
"But my vote doesn't count."

That is the biggest load of malarky I have ever heard.
So your telling me that if the whole state of Wisconsin decided not to vote simply because every person thought their vote didn't count, thats a whole lot of votes, my friend. (Especially in Wisconsin because we are such an important swing state.)

So get in line, and vote.

And don't worry, if you haven't registered bring a proof of residence and your photo ID and you are as good as gold.

------------------> Make a difference <-------------------- It is so easy, but oh, so important. xxxxxx
